Acoustic Gristle Soup
This collection of some of my new and older compositions was recorded on a few random weekdays when Steve and my schedules would align throughout the year of 2018 between the hours of 1 and 4pm. The only rule going into the recording sessions was that I was going to play acoustic guitar. I played predominantly my Martin Custom 15 and a bit of my new Martin 000-28. I did use a Gretsch resonator guitar on one track and a six-string banjo that was hanging in the studio on another. I was using a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup on both Martin guitars into a Fishman Spectrum Aura Preamp and then into one of their Loudbox Performer amplifiers. We also used room mics and close mics on the guitars. We ended up using minimal sources per guitar track once we started editing and mixing.
I was prepared to do a solo acoustic record but instead found myself layering guitars to make the tracks rock a little more. It will be fun to perform these tunes solo in the future trying to capture the intensity that the layering allowed me to achieve but I’m ready for the challenge…Can you dig it?
